Suburban FC - Atlantic Canada’s First National Youth Club Licence Holders

SUBURBAN FC is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a National Youth Club Licence from Canada Soccer. This announcement makes us the first, and only, club in Atlantic Canada to be awarded with this status & recognition.

Suburban FC’s staff, alongside members of our Board of Directors, have been working together in pursuit of the NYCL (National Youth Club Licence) for the last 36-months. Becoming recipients of this License is a primary objective of our organization’s strategic plan.

We’re excited to have our club achieve this status” shared Suburban FC’s President Anthony Murphy. “The work that has gone into making this a reality has been extensive and took a massive investment of time from everyone involved. I want to recognize & thank all of the individuals who played their part. says the SFC President.

“We are immensely proud of this achievement and our club as a whole. It shows the dedication and drive we have to make our club better in every way.” said Suburban FC Executive Director, Jessie Burgins. “We try our best to practice what we preach by being leaders on the field and in the community, and this club license achievement is a testament to all of our hard work.”

What is the National Youth Club Licence? The Canada Soccer National Youth Club Licence recognizes the highest achieving organizations from across Canada and rewards them with the Canada Soccer Approved Youth Soccer Club endorsement and associated MLS Home Grown Player benefits. Organizations achieving this licence display characteristics and demonstrate behaviours aligned with the highest expectations of governance, administration, infrastructure, and technical, support their MA and Canada Soccer Pathways, and participate in the highest level of competition in Canada; the Canada Soccer Player Development Program (CanadaSoccer.com).

Suburban FC’s Director of Soccer, Ollie Hewish, had this to say about this milestone for the Club. “We’re very proud of this recognition & accomplishment. At the end of the day the Club Licence process is in place to hold clubs accountable to the highest standard possible, and that, regardless of the status or rewards, it is something that we as a club always want to do. We need to ensure we keep moving forwards and to keep raising the bar for ourselves and those around us.

Here’s what Soccer Nova Scotia’s Club Licencing Manager, Marisa Colzie, had to say about Suburban FC’s new licecnse status. “It’s been a pleasure working with Suburban FC and I am proud of the work they have accomplished this past year within the National Youth Club License application process.  They have shown great leadership embodying a growth mindset and a willingness to reflect, improve, and develop. Congratulations and job well done.

Suburban FC would like to recognize & thank the following people for their efforts, guidance & support throughout this process. Without these individuals, we would not be at this stage today.

Anthony Murphy, Guy Edwards, Jessie Burgins, Oliver Hewish (Suburban Football Club), Marisa Colzie, Lindsay MacAskill & Nino Kovačević (Soccer Nova Scotia) & Dave Nutt & Alex Valerio (Canada Soccer).
