On April 10th, Suburban FC was pleased to Welcome world-renowned expert and academic Dr Tracy Vaillancourt as a guest speaker to our CPD (Coach Development Program). Dr Vaillancourt is a current professor at the University of Ottawa in the Faculty of Education and Psychology. Dr Vaillancourt hold the Canada Research Chair in School-Based Mental Health and Violence Prevention and is an elected fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. In addition to her roles in academia, Dr Vaillancourt has been coaching in football for over 20 years, is currently a provincial coach with the Ontario Soccer Association, and is a content and coach developer for Canada Soccer.
Dr Vaillancourt spoke to our coaches about various topics surrounding resilience & mental health in youth. With 1 in 5 Canadian youth suffering from mental health problems, we want our coaches to be prepared to support any of their players who are suffering through the many forms of mental health problems. Dr Vaillancourt delivered a fantastic module providing our Suburban FC coaches with important information, tools, and resources to ensure we as a club are doing what we can to create the best possible environment and support for our players.
Suburban FC would like to extend our thanks to Dr Vaillancourt for her time and sharing her expertise with us!
This guest session was part of the newly implemented Suburban FC CDP (Coach Development Program). All Suburban FC Coaches have access to the CDP as we as a club look to further educate, mentor and develop our coaches to become the best coaches that they can be.
